BSG Bambi
So, in honor of Battlestar Galactica’s final season, I thought I’d give little Jamie Bamber (aka Bambi) some love. When the new BSG first hit the airwaves, I realllly wasn’t sure about this wee Apollo with the soft features and soft voice. But then I started realizing it was a sci-fi show for the modern ages, with Starbuck taking on the tough stereotypical guy role and Apollo bringing in more of the feelings and vulnerability. As the very first miniseries progressed, Jamie Bamber quickly made his case for the new Apollo, bringing enough strength and macho to his sense and sensitivity to make for a delightfully sexy mix. My favorite part of the show was of course his being Lancelot to luscious Mary McDonnell’s Guinevere…or rather Captain Apollo to President Laura Roslin.
These two were golden together, and the fact that she seemed very near a squee every time she looked at him made it all the better. Who wouldn’t be delighted over having a handsome hero at your side, taking any orders you give him? Laura became a superheroine to girls and women everywhere.
Once the Bambi love grew amongst fans, the show runners of Battlestar Galactica gave us lovely little moments to keep us enthralled in our Lee “Apollo” Adama. Moments like the ever-popular almost-dropping-the-towel-during-a-documentary-interview scene. Blatantly gratuitous, but after seven billion sexy naked or near naked shots of Six, we girls were due some beefcake. And wee though he may be, Bambi’s got some great abs. And hips. And chest. And well…everything.
Even super tomboy Starbuck finally had to indulge in the Apollo love. He’s just that good.
Battlestar Galactica returns to the airwaves on January 16, 2009, on the SciFi channel. I must confess I’m not all caught up with the previous season, yet, so no spoilers in the comments, please! Thank you. There are just so many pretty men, so little time. But I’ll get there.
And if you’re looking for more adorable Bambi goodness, Jamie Bamber also did a stint with Ioan Gruffudd in the Horatio Hornblower series.
You get fluffy haired Bambi, poofy white shirts, and your brain going haywire as you hear his British accent, as opposed to the American one he puts on for Battlestar Galactica. And there’s, you know, swashbuckling and male bonding. Here’s a long clip from the series:
