Sunday night’s Empire Awards wasn’t all about Viggo Mortensen and Sean Bean. There happened to be a few other phenomenal actors there as well. I linked last time to the great Empire interviews at the awards ceremony, conducted with good humor by Chris Hewitt. Now here are a few screencaps from the interviews so you get a better look at the stars that attended, and had their fill–literally–of the Jameson’s sponsored Empire Awards.

That’s Gerard Butler up above, star of 300, The Phantom of the Opera, and the Empire Award winner RocknRolla.

Up next we have Helena Bonham Carter, winner of the Best Actress Empire Award for Sweeney Todd.

The lovely Best Newcomer Award nominee, Jim Sturgess of 21, The Other Boleyn Girl, and Across the Universe.

We also had Tom Felton, looking a lot less evil than his onscreen counterpart, Draco Malfoy of Harry Potter.

Also the complete opposite of his Harry Potter character, Lucius Malfoy, the amiable Jason Isaacs. Incidentally, Isaacs recently presented an award to Empire Award Icon winner Viggo Mortensen at the Chicago Film Festival.

Empire Award Best Newcomer winner Gemma Arterton, of Quantum of Solace and RocknRolla.

The ever-adorable James McAvoy, who won the Empire Award for best Sci-fi/Superhero for Wanted. Presented the award by the equally adorable Bambi (Jamie Bamber), McAvoy said “Oh my god, I got an award from the CAG! Er, not everyone’s going to get that.” We fans of Bamber’s Battlestar Galactica get it, James, we get it!

And the duo that were reportedly laughing themselves silly all night, Empire Award icon winner Viggo Mortensen and presenter Sean Bean. As you can see, the constantly laughing Viggo is moving too much to even get captured on film…

Sunday night’s Empire Film Awards brought out a lot of big stars, including Viggo Mortensen, who was presented the Empire icon award by his Lord of the Rings costar Sean Bean. The event, sponsored by Jameson, certainly seemed to have made sure the Jameson’s was flowing. Go here for a fanstastic clip of interviews by Empire’s Chris Hewitt, where talented actors of all kinds seem happy, giddy, light-hearted, and in the case of 300s Gerard Butler, giggling like a schoolgirl.

Which is nothing compared to Viggo Mortensen himself, and his rambling speech whereby he managed to get digs in at a number of big actors, including Russell Crowe. Apparently Crowe had breezed in and read one of his poems and then breezed right out again–Mortensen reflected with an eyeroll on Crowe’s “unfathomable literay aspirations” and added “there’s a lot of pressure at the top.” He then moved on to talk of The Hobbit, which he and Sean Bean might appear in, wherin Aragorn would be possibly changing Boromir’s diapers because of the age difference–”which would be all right”. Bean jokingly intervened at this point, miming a drink out of Viggo’s Jameson’s bottle to indicate Viggo had apparently had one too many.

This prompted Viggo to actually open a bottle and share a drink with Bean. All drunken ramblings aside, it was good to see our two warrior heroes from Lord of the Rings together again. It’s been a decade since the epic trilogy began filming, and it’s always nice to see actors who claim in DVD extras to “be the best of friends” actually telling the truth.
